Our Story
Two Friends with a Dream
Letters from the Islands began the way the best ideas do — between two friends who simply couldn't stop talking about how special the San Juan Islands are. Jen and Candi both fell in love with the wild, unhurried beauty of these islands and dreamed of a way to share that magic with families everywhere.
Together, they started crafting handwritten letters, painting whimsical watercolor illustrations, and tucking little island treasures into envelopes — each one a tiny window into the orca-filled waters, lavender fields, and towering Douglas firs they call home.
Today, their letters travel to mailboxes across the country, carrying the wild wonder of the Pacific Northwest to children who may never have stood on a ferry dock watching a whale breach — but who, after opening one of our envelopes, feel like they truly have.

What We Believe
Every letter is hand-crafted and personally touched by our island team before it reaches your mailbox.
Our stories draw from real San Juan Island experiences — wildlife, seasons, tides, and local legends.
We believe in the magic of physical mail and how a real letter sparks imagination in ways screens never can.
Each letter teaches children about Pacific Northwest wildlife, geography, and the wonders of the natural world.
